Why watches? And what do the headlines leave out?
Craftsmanship & heritage
Engineering, design, brand history, and cultural relevance help explain collectors’ interest. These qualities do not by themselves establish an investment value.
Scarcity & demand
Limited production and sought-after references can influence price. Demand changes, and rarity without buyers may still be illiquid.
Diversification & access
Fractional participation can spread a budget across assets. Diversification is not guaranteed by adding watches, and concentrated collectibles can amplify risk.
Volatility & valuation
Infrequent trading can make recorded prices look stable. That is not proof of low risk: an actual sale price can differ materially from an appraisal.
Historical performance: the missing context
BCG’s March 2023 research reported about 20% annual growth in average secondary-market prices for selected leading Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet models from August 2018 to January 2023, versus 8% for the S&P 500. The difference is 12 percentage points, not a general promise that watches beat equities by 12%. This was a selected basket over a specific period, not Divvi performance, an investable net return, or evidence about every watch. Fees, sale costs, taxes, currency, model selection, and a different starting date can change the comparison.
Read BCG’s 2023 research ↗Market growth forecasts are not investor returns
A 2023 LuxeConsult forecast, reported by Bloomberg and cited in Divvi’s earlier material, projected a pre-owned watch market of around €79 billion (US$85 billion) by 2033, from a 2022 baseline of around €25 billion, potentially overtaking new-watch sales. This is a dated forecast of market sales, not an observed result or a forecast for your investment. A growing market can coexist with falling prices for individual models.
Bloomberg reporting, March 2023 (Spanish) ↗Understand fractional ownership
What is Divvi?
Divvi is built around a simple idea: access to a collectible watch need not require buying the entire piece. Its model brings together sourcing, authentication, fractional investment interests, custody, management, and an eventual sale. The aim is to make an otherwise expensive asset class more accessible while explaining its costs, legal structure, and risks.
What does a fraction represent?
A fraction is a proportionate interest associated with a particular watch. For illustration, 10 out of 100 equal shares represents 10% of the issued interests. What that gives you legally—an interest in an asset, an entity, or a contractual arrangement—depends on the offering documents. A token record alone is not a substitute for enforceable rights. Physical possession or wearing rights should not be assumed.
How do co-owners make decisions?
Several investors can hold interests in the same watch. Economic participation is generally related to the number and class of interests held. The governing documents must set out who can approve a sale, whether investors vote, any thresholds, the manager’s powers, conflicts of interest, and how costs and proceeds are allocated. Shared ownership does not automatically mean every decision is made by a unanimous vote.
Why use Divvi rather than buy a watch directly?
Direct purchase gives you a whole watch and the responsibilities of sourcing, checking authenticity, storage, insurance, servicing, and resale. Divvi’s proposed shared model coordinates those tasks and reduces the amount needed to participate in one asset. In exchange, investors accept fees, a shared legal structure, and less direct control. It is a different ownership experience, not a replacement for owning and wearing a personal watch.
What do blockchain and tokens add?
Tokenization represents interests with digital records on a blockchain. It can support allocation, transaction history, and controlled transfers. It does not prove the physical watch exists, establish authenticity, guarantee security, or remove legal obligations. Those matters require independent evidence, custody controls, and enforceable documents. Network, wallet, smart-contract, and access risks also need to be understood.
Understand the timepieces
Which watches fit the model?
Divvi focuses on collectible luxury timepieces. Examples of well-known collecting brands include Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet; naming them does not imply endorsement, partnership, or an available listing. Selection needs to consider the specific reference, rarity, condition, provenance, service history, completeness of box and papers, price, and potential resale market. Not every expensive watch is an attractive investment.
How are watches sourced and researched?
The sourcing approach combines specialist market research, dealer and partner networks, comparable transactions, and an assessment of the watch itself. Historical prices and forward-looking assumptions can inform a decision but cannot identify guaranteed winners. A listing should explain why the particular piece was selected and disclose the acquisition basis and material risks.
How are authenticity and provenance checked?
Authentication examines whether the watch and relevant components are genuine; provenance concerns its origin and ownership history. Checks can include reference and serial details, movement, case, dial, components, service records, and supporting documents. An offering should identify the expert or authentication provider and make the relevant report available. Authentication is distinct from a valuation, and neither guarantees future resale value.
How is value determined and monitored?
Valuation considers comparable completed sales, reference, condition, originality, rarity, and demand. Advertised asking prices are not the same as realised sale prices. Appraisals may be updated, but a valuation is an estimate rather than cash you can immediately realise. Investors should know who values the asset, the method and date, any independence or conflict issues, and how valuation updates are communicated.
Where is the watch stored?
The intended model uses specialist third-party custody, with secure facilities and suitable environmental conditions. The specific custodian, location, access controls, handling procedures, maintenance arrangements, and allocation of responsibilities must be documented for the offering. Holding an investment interest should not be confused with taking the watch home.
Understand the investment journey
What happens from registration to investment?
The intended journey has three steps: create an account with basic details; complete eligibility and identity checks; then review available offerings and choose whether to participate. Onboarding is intended to be online; checks can take hours or longer depending on the documents and review needed, so no completion time is promised. Verification is not an approval of an investment’s suitability or return. Funding an offering, allocating interests, and the acquisition or custody of the watch should be clearly distinguished in the documents.
Who can participate, and why are KYC and AML checks required?
The service is intended for adults aged 18 or over, subject to the offering’s eligibility rules. Residence, nationality, sanctions, investor category, and local laws can affect access; international interest does not mean universal eligibility. KYC means Know Your Customer and involves verifying identity. AML means anti-money laundering and can require source-of-funds information. Submit documents only through the designated secure onboarding channel, not a general email enquiry.
How much can I invest?
The published model starts at US$500 per share. The actual share price, minimum subscription, currency, number of shares, and maximum participation should be stated for each offering. Fractionalization lowers the entry amount compared with buying the whole watch, but a smaller ticket does not make the investment low risk.
Which payment methods are available?
Payment methods must be confirmed in the investor portal before committing funds. The published material mentions cards, Apple Pay, and PayPal, but gives conflicting descriptions of cryptocurrency availability. Do not assume any method is currently enabled. The offering should explain accepted currencies, provider charges, conversion costs, failed payments, refunds, and how funds are treated if the funding target is not met.
When are shares allocated and what documents do I receive?
The published process allocates interests after an offering is fully funded. Investors should receive or be able to access the governing agreement, allocation confirmation, records of their interests, and the supporting asset and custody documentation. The portal should explain whether a wallet is required or managed on your behalf, how records are accessed, and how corrections or recovery are handled.
How long is the holding period?
The original model describes an indicative holding period of around four to six years. This is an estimate, not a maturity date or a promise that a buyer will be available. Market conditions, costs, sale approvals, and buyer demand can lead to an earlier or later exit. Plan for an illiquid investment and read the actual offering’s sale and extension provisions.
How do fees and sale proceeds work?
The reference model is a 1.5% annual management fee and a 15% performance fee on profit at resale. Management costs are described as covering authentication, storage, insurance, and administration; confirm what is included and whether any additional expenses apply. The fee base, accrual, definition of profit, taxes, sale commissions, and deduction order matter. Net sale proceeds, which can be less than the amount invested, are allocated under the offering terms.
Can I sell a fraction before the watch is sold?
A secondary marketplace is planned, not currently offered by this website. It would allow eligible holders to seek buyers for their interests rather than wait for the sale of the whole watch. Availability, permitted transfers, price, settlement, fees, and onboarding rules would need to be specified. A marketplace does not ensure a buyer or a fair exit price. Until confirmed, do not rely on early resale.
Where are listings, registration, and login?
The listings and investor portal are being reviewed separately. This educational website does not accept subscriptions, process payments, or verify investor documents. For now, contact the team at info@amerny.com for current availability and the appropriate next step. Account and listing links will be added when the portal is ready.
Understand safeguards and risks
How can I verify the physical asset exists?
Look for an asset-specific authentication report, acquisition evidence, identifying details, custody confirmation, and any independent inspection or audit reports. Confirm how frequently records are reconciled and whether investors can access the evidence. A blockchain balance proves a recorded balance, not the existence or condition of a physical watch. Do not assume an audit is available unless the offering identifies it.
What happens if the watch is damaged or stolen?
The model includes insurance, but recovery depends on the actual policy. Check the insurer, insured party, agreed value or valuation basis, cover during storage and transport, exclusions, deductibles, claim procedure, and who receives and distributes compensation. A claim can be delayed, limited, or declined. Insurance does not cover every event or ordinary investment losses.
What happens if Divvi stops operating?
The outcome depends on the legal owner of the watch, separation of assets and client funds, custody contracts, creditor rights, and the winding-down or insolvency arrangements. Third-party custody alone does not guarantee that investors are protected from every business failure. Before participating, ask who can continue managing or sell the asset, how records and access are preserved, and how costs and net proceeds would be handled.
What are the principal investment risks?
Consider falling prices, concentrated exposure to a brand or reference, limited buyers, valuation uncertainty, counterfeit or altered components, damage, custody failure, insurance limits, currency movements, ongoing fees, technology failures, conflicts, and legal or regulatory change. Rare does not mean risk-free. Invest only after understanding the documents and the possibility of losing some or all of your capital.
Does a regulatory or KYC statement guarantee safety?
No. Identity checks and anti-money laundering controls do not certify investment performance. A statement of licensing must identify the actual legal entity, regulator, licence number, authorised activities, and any limits or restrictions. Divvi’s registration and regulatory status must be confirmed before an offering is promoted; this website makes no claim of regulatory approval. Eligibility can differ across the UAE, its free zones, and other countries.
Divvi’s purpose and values
What is the mission and longer-term vision?
Divvi’s mission is to broaden access to ownership of exceptional collectible assets through fractional participation. It begins with watches and envisions a wider world of collectibles over time. That direction is an ambition, not a claim that other asset categories are available. The perspective is rooted in the UAE and informed by a global collecting community.
What do transparency, security, and compliance mean in practice?
Transparency means explaining the asset, evidence, price, fees, decisions, and risks. Security means appropriate safeguards for both physical assets and information, with clear limits rather than absolute promises. Compliance means matching activities, onboarding, disclosures, and investor access to the applicable rules. These are operating principles whose implementation should be evidenced in each offering, not guarantees of financial success.
